BORN WITH SIX FINGERS AND ONE LEG REMOVED, THIS REMARKABLE 5-YEAR-OLD GIRL IS INSPIRING EVERYONE WITH HER COURAGE

When Tamara first saw her newborn daughter Jemma, she was overwhelmed by emotions.

Born in July in Oklahoma, Jemma came into the world with a rare congenital difference. She had three fingers on each hand, while her right leg had no ankle and was shaped differently, making her family worry about how she would move as she grew.

“I was really shocked when I first saw her,” Tamara recalled. “With her leg the way it was, we knew she could have difficulties moving around as she got older.”

Doctors offered the family several possible options for Jemma’s right leg, including procedures involving screws, metal supports and other methods that could require repeated operations.

But after considering what would give her daughter the best chance at an active childhood, Tamara made a difficult decision.

When Jemma was just nine months old, doctors performed a knee-disarticulation procedure and removed the lower part of her right leg.

Just two months later, Jemma was fitted with a prosthetic leg with a working knee joint — opening the door to a new chapter in her young life.

Rather than allowing her daughter’s physical differences to define what she could or could not do, Tamara and her husband encouraged Jemma to explore the world around her.

They introduced her to activities including hiking, soccer and trampoline jumping, helping her discover how to move confidently with her prosthetic.

“We wanted our daughter to have a normal life,” Tamara said. “She is a special child, but we never wanted her life to be limited by the differences in her body.”

From the moment Jemma received her prosthetic, her family focused on helping her become comfortable with it rather than treating it as something that should stop her.

And Jemma quickly showed just how determined she could be.

She learned to walk, run, ride a bicycle and play like other children her age. With practice, she became increasingly confident using her prosthetic during physical activities.

Now, one of Jemma’s biggest dreams is to become a cheerleader.

The little girl loves being part of cheerleading and has learned to balance confidently on her prosthetic leg without letting it stop her from taking part.

Her hands have never prevented her from being active either. Despite having three fingers on each hand, Jemma can still grip and handle objects well.

And according to her mother, there is rarely a quiet moment when Jemma is around.

“We never catch Jemma having a moment of sadness about it,” Tamara said proudly. “She never wants to sit still. Even without her prosthetic, she is still jumping around the house.”

“She has never complained about her differences. We are always happy and proud of everything she has accomplished.”

For Jemma, the prosthetic is not a reason to step back from life — it is simply one part of the journey she has learned to navigate.

And with her family cheering her on every step of the way, this determined little girl continues to show that her dreams are far bigger than any physical challenge placed in her path.
