Brother and Sister Remembered After Tragic Lake Geneva Boating Accident

LAKE GENEVA, Wisconsin — Communities across Wisconsin and Illinois are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 6-year-old Caleb Oswald and 7-year-old Abigail Oswald, two siblings who were among three children who lost their lives after a recreational boat capsized on Geneva Lake during severe weather over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

According to investigators, the 25-foot Nautique P25 was carrying 10 people when an intense storm swept across the lake.

Authorities said the operator attempted to reach safe harbor, but powerful waves caused the boat to take on water before it overturned, throwing everyone into the lake. All of the children on board were wearing life jackets.

Family members later identified the young victims as Caleb Oswald, 6, and Abigail Oswald, 7. In a public statement, relatives described the brother and sister as inseparable best friends who filled their home with laughter, kindness, and joy.

The identity of the third child who also lost their life has not yet been publicly released by authorities.

The Community Unit School District 200 in Wheaton, Illinois, confirmed that Caleb and Abigail were students within the district and extended condolences to their family, classmates, teachers, and friends.

Meanwhile, a memorial fundraiser established in their honor has received widespread community support, with organizers announcing that all proceeds will be donated to children’s charities in memory of the two siblings.

Officials continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, while local residents and supporters have gathered to remember the children through prayers, flowers, and messages of compassion.

The tragedy has united communities across the region as they honor the lives of Caleb Oswald and Abigail Oswald, whose memories continue to inspire an outpouring of love and support.
