Your ƄeƄé loses all of its extremities due to an infection- “I want to warn other parents”

Every mother always wants the best for her children and when something bad happens to them it is a strong blow to her heart. However, being a mother is being a warrior and in the face of adversities they are always motivated to get ahead for her children.

An example of this is AƄigail Wardle, the mother of Oliʋer, an 11-month-old boy who has lost all his extremities.

AƄigail from Cleethorpes, England, took his son to the doctor for the first time in March, as he noticed that the little one was a little broken. The specialist only indicated some changes in the diet, a lot of fluids and acetaminophen because he did not find anything wrong.

Back at home, AƄigail felt that her son was getting worse to the point of feeling “loss of life” and decided to take him to the hospital as an emergency. At the scene, the nurses were immediately concerned about Oliʋer’s appearance but still did not know what was wrong with him.

“When I sucked on him, it was as if his bones ached,” the mother recalled.

AƄigail had no idea what was happening to her son and the situation seemed such a surprise to both her and the doctors.

I could hear a doctor phoning another hospital asking how to treat Oliʋer. Her hands and feet had started to turn purple, and I just remember thinking she was cold and telling them to put some socks on her,” Mrs Wardle commented.

The specialists used medications to bring the child into an induced state and keep him alive. Later, they discovered that it was a previously undiagnosed throat infection, which had become septic.

Although the little boy had not shown signs of infection, his body was having an extreme response to infectious organisms. His condition was deemed a life-threatening medical emergency.

“Sepsis occurs when an infection (in the skin, lungs, urinary tract, or elsewhere) sets off a chain reaction throughout the body. Without prompt treatment, sepsis can rapidly lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The sepsis suffered by Oliʋer was really seʋer and caused the amputation of all four of his extremities. In a Faceook post, the devastated mother recounted how her left leg was amputated almost before her eyes, after it broke from her when she and a nurse tried to change her diaper.

The dramatic procedure was necessary to be able to save the child, after which Oliʋer managed to recover and went home in July.

Most important of all, Oliʋer is still that smiling ƄeƄé as always, even though it breaks my heart. I just can’t believe I’m still smiling after what happened, what a tough man I have. My son is a great inspiration,” said AƄigaíl.

Had it not been for her decision to take him to the doctor, the story could have been fatal. His mother had no idea that the child was sick because Oliʋer shows no signs other than a broken ʋisiƄle.

That is why AƄigail decided to tell her story and warn parents about the importance of doing the right thing at the right time “medical help will always be the best option”.

She does not want her son to inspire pity for his condition, she is pleased that he has managed to survive, her goal is that her experience help other families to survive. Share it.
