Manchester City striker Erling Haaland came very close to scoring a goal that would have embarrassed Bayern Munich keeper Yann Sommer on Tuesday night.
Haaland’s determined pressing very nearly resulted in City taking a 15th-minute lead over Bayern in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich passed the ball back to Sommer, who received it in the left corner of his six-yard box.
Sommer then turned into danger by pushing the ball to his right.
Haaland was on top of him in a flash and Sommer’s attempted clearance deflected off the striker’s right leg but, luckily for Bayern, the ball did not end up in the back of the net.
The ball was in the back of Sommer’s net 12 minutes later though as City took the lead courtesy of a stunning long-range strike by Rodri.
Spanish midfielder Rodri had never previously scored in the Champions League.
City went on to win 3-0 on Tuesday, with Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland joining Rodri on the scoresheet in the second half.
The second leg will take place in Munich next Wednesday (April 19).
