Man City injury news latest: Erling Haaland update amid Arsenal Premier League title boost

Manchester City frontman Erling Haaland suffered a groin injury forcing him to withdraw from Norway’s squad for upcoming fixtures against Spain and Georgia.

Manchester City star striker Erling Haaland’s groin injury is not thought to be a serious one, as per our sister title Manchester Evening News.

Haaland felt some discomfort in his groin after City’s 6-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory against Burnley on Saturday before withdrawing from Norway’s squad for upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers with Spain and Georgia. The Norwegian FA confirmed that the 22-year-old in a statement, confirming that initial tests signified that the lethal finisher would need some time on the treatment table.

The statement read: “Erling Braut Haaland had some pain in his groin after the match against Burnley. We hoped that this was just a familiarity that would carry over to Saturday. However, City don’t believe the injury to be a serious one and the player may still be fit to play the crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool in just ten days.

Pep Guardiola’s side are in desperate need of a win against the Reds, currently sitting eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, albeit having played one less game than the north Londoners. The two title challengers are also still to face each other at the Etihad Stadium this season, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta returning to the ground he previously coached at on April 27.

The reverse fixture at the Emirates ended 3-1 to the visitors thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and of course, Haaland – who has netted an astonishing 28 times in just 26 league outings this term.
