‘He will not be happy’ – Kevin De Bruyne on Man City’s Erling Haaland vs Bayern Munich

Haaland scored in each leg vs Bayern Munich but De Bruyne has detailed why the Manchester City hero will still be left slightly bitter.

Haaland is now two goals away from the 50-goal mark

Kevin De Bruyne says Erling Haaland will be chewing over his penalty miss despite Manchester City progressing past Bayern Munich through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The striker blazed his spot kick over the bar on 37 minutes with the game goalless after Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano was adjudged to have handled in the area. The 22-year-old made up for his error by slamming home the opening goal of the game on 57 minutes to ensure his side were in the hat for the last four amid a 1-1 draw.

Haaland now has 48 goals this season, including 12 in eight Champions League outings. But despite his astonishing haul, De Bruyne said the attacker – who also scored in the 3-0 first leg win – would be seething over his missed penalty despite the 4-1 aggregate triumph.

“Knowing him he will not be happy with missing the penalty,” De Bruyne said. “But it’s over, you have to go again and whenever you get another chance you want to go again and he had the opportunity and finished it with class and he helps us win games.”

City were met by a vibrant Allianz Arena home crowd during the contest but weathered the intensity to book a place in the semi-finals for the third year in a row. De Bruyne unpacked what his side did well in order to quell the threat of the Bundesliga champions.

He added: “Going into the semis is what we wanted to do. I’ve played he“But, I think we dealt well with the pressure. We defended when there was a tough moment and at certain times we created what we needed to createre before and in the beginning you know they’re going to come aggressive and they’re going to try and put you under pressure.

“In the difficult moments and I think it was a very smart game from us. You need to prepare everything and that’s what we did. We go again on Saturday [FA Cup semi-final vs Sheffield United].”
