“I’VE GOT TURBULENCE, I’VE GOT ICE” — THE CHILLING FINAL TEXT FROM 20-YEAR-OLD PILOT BEFORE FLORIDA LEARJET 𝔠r𝘢sh
A message of just six words has become one of the most heartbreaking details to emerge from a devastating plane 𝔠r𝘢sh in Florida.
“I’ve got turbulence, I’ve got ice.”
Those were reportedly the words 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras sent to her boyfriend shortly before the Learjet 60 she was aboard crashed near Greenacres, Florida, on November 1, claiming the lives of all nine people on board.
According to her stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, Nathalia sent the message at approximately 12:40 p.m. The aircraft went down around 12:50 p.m.
In a matter of minutes, a young woman who had dedicated much of her life to aviation was caught in an emergency that would leave investigators searching for answers and her family facing an unimaginable loss.
A DREAM THAT BEGAN WHEN SHE WAS JUST A CHILD
For Nathalia, flying was not simply a career choice. It was a dream she had pursued from an exceptionally young age.
Her father, Allan Filgueiras, was also a pilot and helped introduce her to aviation when she was a child. She earned her private pilot’s license at just 17, while still in high school.
Despite being only 20, she had reportedly accumulated around 1,300 hours of flight experience. Her mother, Camila Corteleti, said Nathalia had been working as a commercial pilot for approximately nine months before the 𝔠r𝘢sh.
Her family described her as someone who was determined to follow her passion, even though the risks of aviation had always worried those closest to her.
Her mother had admitted that she feared the possibility of losing her daughter to the skies. Yet she continued to support Nathalia’s ambition and took pride in seeing her pursue the future she had worked so hard to build.
THE FINAL MINUTES: FROM TURBULENCE TO A MAYDAY CALL
The Learjet 60 was traveling from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas toward North Eleuthera in the Bahamas, carrying two crew members and seven passengers.
Air traffic control recordings reveal that the crew reported icing and moderate turbulence while flying at high altitude.
The aircraft was being jolted by turbulence, with altitude fluctuations reported to be as much as 700 feet. The crew also reported encountering precipitation and requested permission to climb to a higher altitude.
At first, the situation appeared manageable.
