The second young teenage boy killed in a mass śh́óóting on a California beach on Monday has been pictured as his family grieves the sudden loss.
The family of Marco Antonio Perez, 15, is enduring “immense pain” after he and Nathaniel Flores, 13, were killed near Moss Landing State Beach just before 2 a.m. Monday.
“No one is ever prepared to face such a difficult situation, much less to say goodbye to someone in such an unexpected way,” a GoFundMe on behalf of Perez says. The fundraiser also notes Perez “tragically and unjustly lost his life.”

Monterey County police say they were called to the area due to reports of gunshots and found the teens dead at the scene. A third gunshot victim went to a local hospital, and a fourth was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not released any details about any suspects or motives involved, but noted there was “no active threat to the Moss Landing community at this time.”
Trash, alcohol, red cups, and a speaker could be seen at the scene.

Top Monterey County law enforcement officials are trying to determine what happened.
“This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of two lives,” Monterey County Sheriff Tina M. Nieto said, according to KTVU. “Our detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding what occurred. We ask anyone who may have information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist with this investigation.”
The other victim, Flores, played for the Steinbeck Tigers Youth Football team, which announced that he would have turned 14 on Friday.

“It is with profound sadness that the Steinbeck Tigers Youth Football & Cheer organization mourns the heartbreaking loss of one of our own, Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Flores,” read a description on a GoFundMe campaign launched by the organization.
“His unexpected passing has left his family, teammates, coaches, and our entire Steinbeck community heartbroken.”
Both teens were from the city of Salinas in Monterey County.
Perez’s GoFundMe aims to raise $5,000 for funeral and other expenses.
The investigation into the śh́óóting is ongoing.
