Lindsay Clancy’s former husband said he forgave her for killing their three young children in his first televised interview since a jury failed to reach a verdict in her murder trial.

Earlier this month, 11 of 12 jurors were ready to clear Lindsay Clancy of criminal responsibility, with the majority feeling that the mother, from Massachusetts, was in the grip of a rare condition called postpartum psychosis when she strangled her kids in 2023.

But a lone juror sided with prosecutors, who had argued that Clancy was aware of what she was doing. The deadlock forced a judge to declare a mistrial earlier this month.

In the interview on CBS News’ 60 Minutes, Patrick Clancy, 36, said his youngest son, Callan, didn’t die straight away on 24 January, 2023, but lived four more days before dying in his arms.

While clutching his eight-month-old son, he said he typed tributes with one hand to his other children, Cora, five, and Dawson, two, and also forgave his wife.

“I saw headlines that say ‘𝘬iᩚll mom’ and ‘baby murderer monster’ and none of them were accurate,” Mr Clancy said.

“I believed that it was her mєntal illness that caused that.

“So I shared those words. And I think when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.”

Mr Clancy was speaking beside his wife, Dr Rachel Danis, who said they are planning to start a family.

He also addressed social media conspiracy theories on the murder case, which have included unfounded claims he was connected to his children’s dєatᩚh.

“It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children,” Mr Clancy said. “It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mєntal health.”

He was also asked if he’s angry with himself or if he felt like he had failed in some way.

“I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time,” Mr Clancy said. “And I live with the outcome. I live with it every day.”

Last week, juror Michael Desronvil, who had argued that Clancy bore criminal responsibility for the deaths, said in a statement released on X by his lawyer, Edward Paltzik: “I didn’t have any doubts.”

The jury foreperson claimed in an earlier media interview that Mr Desronvil had admitted having “reasonable doubt” about her guilt, but wanted to convict her anyway. Mr Desronvil denies that allegation.

The jury’s deadlock forced the judge to declare a mistrial on 4 September, leaving the case unresolved.

Neither side disputed that Clancy, 36, a former labour and delivery nurse, strangled her children in the family’s home in 2023 before trying to end her own life.

The Plymouth County district attorney has yet to say whether he’ll seek to put Clancy on trial again.
