An upstate New York teen has been convicted of strangling his girlfriend after she told him she may be pregnant with his child when they were both just 14.
Raymond Wright Jr. was found guilty by a jury Monday after just five hours of deliberation for the second-degree murder of Samantha Humphrey, whose body was found in a river in Schenectady months after she vanished in 2022, the Times Union reported.
Humphrey’s father, Jeffrey Humphrey, raced to try to catch the verdict, but arrived just as his daughter’s now-18-year-old 𝘬iᩚller was being escorted out.
“So I didn’t get to see the look on that monster’s face,” he told the Times Union.
“But I got to see the look on the face of the monster that made the monster,” he said of seeing Wright’s mother, Kristi Kenyon, who stormed out of the courtroom after a foul-mouthed outburst.

Wright and Humphrey were both just 14 when the 𝘬iᩚller’s on-off girlfriend told him on a late-night walk in November 2022 that she may be pregnant. He then strangled her and threw her body in the Mohawk River.
Wright admitted that they had a physical fight but claimed he left her alone but alive by the river.

But “he was never able to account for [an] hour-and-a-half” gap in his account, Christina Tremante-Pelham, Schenectady County’s deputy chief assistant district attorney, said later.
“And that’s of course because he was 𝘬iᩚlling her and disposing of her body.”
Humphrey’s body was found three months later, but it was not until May 2025 that a medical examiner determined that the young teen had been choked to dєatᩚh.
Her phone history showed that she had researched pregnancy symptoms, although it was never confirmed if she was expecting ot not. Wright’s history included searches for how bodies decompose in water.
Humphrey’s loved ones sobbed in court as the verdict was read aloud. Wright’s mother erupted in a foul-mouthed outburst and stormed out, accusing the jury of dismissing evidence involving another person whose DNA was found on Humphrey’s sleeve.
The defense had also suggested the 14-year-old victim may have killed herself.
Wright was convicted as a juvenile and faces up to 15 years to life in prison when sentenced in January.
Humphrey’s father said the verdict meant Wright could no longer harm anyone else.
“Hopefully, the danger that he poses won’t be ignored in his parole hearings,” he said, claiming that earlier warnings went unheeded. “As it unfortunately was when we went to certain local agencies and told them about the danger he posed more than a year before he killed Sam.”
