TWIN GIRL WITH JUST 10% OF HER BRAIN DEFIES EXPECTATIONS AND STUNS DOCTORS WITH HER REMARKABLE JOURNEY

An identical twin born without 90 per cent of her brain has beaten the odds after doctors said she had no hope of surviving.

Aniyah was born with encephalocele – a rare condition where the brain grows outside the skull.

Doctors removed the majority of the dead brain tissue when she was just one day old.

Her parents Charlotte Youds and Will Todd, both 20, were told she would not survive, leaving doctors with no option but to turn off her machine.

But the she refused to give up and has now turned four months old with her twin sister, Sophia.

Charlotte, a full-time mum, said: ‘We were both broken. They unplugged all the machines and put her in are arms to say goodbye.

‘We talked to her and promised her that we would always look after her if she just fought for us.’

And that same day, the miracle baby was fit to come home with them.

The family, from Liverpool, have visited the neurosurgeon once since Aniyah’s surgery and will continue to have regular check-ups.

Her only medication is Gavisgon for reflux and she can breathe on her own and doesn’t need a feeding tube.

Charlotte said: ‘The brain which is inside of her head is formed abnormally but we do not know the extent of the damage.

‘Doctors told us that the best way to find out what Aniyah can do is to let her do it.

‘She’s so alert, she smiles and laughs, and she loves music, she’ll have a little dance.’
