‘FORGIVE ME FOR NOT GIVING YOU A FULLY FORMED BODY’: HEARTBREAKING LETTER FROM MOM TO HER BABY GIRL BORN WITHOUT ARMS OR LEGS LEAVES HEARTS IN TEARS

At just five months old, little Binh An has already endured more medical challenges than most people could ever imagine.

Born with multiple congenital differences, including the absence of her legs and most of her arms, she has also been diagnosed with thalassemia and a complex congenital heart condition.

For her mother, Hien, 35, every day beside her daughter is a mixture of love, fear and hope.

In a heartbreaking letter written to her little girl, Hien described the nights she spends watching Binh An sleep, noticing the tiny medical line still attached to her head and the occasional innocent smile that makes her heart ache.

“Sometimes, when I see you smiling in your sleep, my heart hurts even more,” she wrote.

Binh An’s difficult journey began even before she was born. During the early months of pregnancy, Hien contracted chickenpox and later discovered she was expecting a baby. Although she attended regular check-ups, her hopes were shattered during a screening at six months, when doctors detected multiple congenital abnormalities and warned that her baby might be born without fully developed limbs.

Hien and her husband, Hoa, 42, were devastated. Some people advised them not to continue the pregnancy, fearing the difficulties ahead. But the couple chose to hold on to their baby and hope for the best.

When Binh An finally arrived, the reality was heartbreaking. She had no legs, no elbows, and both hands had only five fingers in total, which were not fully formed.

Her parents had hoped that, despite these differences, their daughter would at least be healthy. Sadly, more challenges followed.

At just 20 days old, Binh An developed jaundice and began feeding poorly. Further examinations revealed that she had thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder requiring regular blood transfusions.

Then, at four months old, doctors discovered another serious concern: congenital heart disease. Her condition is currently being monitored, and doctors plan to reassess whether surgery is possible when she reaches six months, depending on her health and weight.

For five months, hospitals have become a second home for the little girl.

The family’s financial situation has also become increasingly difficult. Hien previously worked as a seamstress alongside her husband, but she has had to stop working to care for Binh An. Their household now depends largely on Hoa’s income, while medical expenses continue to accumulate.

To keep their daughter receiving treatment, the couple has borrowed more than 100 million Vietnamese dong, leaving them struggling under a growing burden of debt.

Yet, through every sleepless night and every difficult hospital visit, Hien has never stopped believing in her daughter.

“I wish I could take all your pain and carry it myself,” she wrote. “If only your father and I could suffer in your place.”

She also made a promise that captures a mother’s unconditional love:

“Whatever happens, your father and I will always be beside you. We will be your arms and your legs.”

The road ahead remains uncertain, especially as Binh An awaits further heart examinations. But behind this tiny girl stands a family determined to give her every possible chance.
