Lee Pomeroy was looking forward to a simple journey with his son.

The 51-year-old father had boarded a train from London Road station in Guildford on January 4, 2019, planning to travel to London just one day before his birthday.

It was meant to be an ordinary father-and-son trip.

Instead, it became a devastating moment that would forever change two families.

Darren Pencille was later sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Lee Pomeroy during the train journey.

On July 12, 2019, the court imposed a minimum term of 28 years, reduced by the 185 days he had already spent on remand, meaning 27 years and 180 days would need to be served before parole could even be considered.

But behind the legal process was a heartbreaking story of a father whose life was taken away in front of his child.

The tᩚraɢedy began after a seemingly minor interaction inside the train carriage.

During the journey toward London, a brief delay occurred as passengers moved along the carriage.

The court heard that Pencille made an insulting remark during the moment.

The comment led to a disagreement between the two men.

Pomeroy, who was travelling with his son, wanted an apology for the way Pencille had spoken to him.

The disagreement continued as the men moved into another carriage.

A passenger recorded part of the confrontation on a mobile phone, while the train’s CCTV captured their movements before the αttαᑕk.

What started as a verbal argument quickly turned into a fatal act of violence.

Pencille had brought a knife onto the train.

He pulled the w𝔢𝔞𝔭𝔬η and attacked Pomeroy.

The assault lasted only moments, but the consequences were permanent.

He shaved his beard, and Mitchell drove him to different locations around Surrey, including his flat in Bognor Regis.

She was sentenced to 28 months in prison.
