VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX) — A mother charged in the Vinton County “house of horrors” case faced a judge Wednesday after requesting a competency evaluation.
Elizabeth Siders is one of four family members charged with at least 16 counts of child endangerment. Investigators said 16 children in the family’s Hamden home did not attend school, could not read or write, and that some were near dєatᩚh when investigators found them living in a 12-by-12 room on June 30.

During Wednesday’s court appearance, Siders pleaded not guilty to all counts, and her bond was doubled from $250,000 to $500,000. Siders and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., have also been indicted in a separate 𝘴єx crime case. Those charges were among those to which she pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Investigators said that the second case involved a child who was not one of their own.
Also during Wednesday’s hearing, Siders was ordered not to have any contact with her husband. Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer said Siders is a flight risk, and added that the 𝘴єxual conduct charges are serious. Vinton County Judge Laina Fetherolf Rogers agreed.

Siders’ attorney, Tommy Stolly, said his client still asks to see the children, adding that she’s been pregnant most of her life and has never had a chance to go through postpartum, which he said could play a role in her competency evaluation.
