Kylian Mbappe moved to Real Madrid from Paris Saint Germain this summer.
It has been confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will not be wearing the number 10 shirt for Real Madrid in the upcoming season.
After months of speculation, Mbappe’s move from Paris Saint Germain to Madrid was officially confirmed last month.
A statement from Los Blancos read: “Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
Taking to social media, Mbappe wrote: “A dream come true. So happy and proud to join the club of my dream, Real Madrid.
“Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!”
Ahead of the new season, it has been confirmed that Mbappe will wear the number nine shirt for Madrid.
It will take some time for Mbappe fans to get use to his new number having seen him wear the number 10 jersey for the last few seasons.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: “Real Madrid confirm Fede Valverde to become new number eight after Toni Kroos. Kylian Mbappé to wear number nine, as expected.
“Mbappé never requested number 10 out of respect for Luka Modrić.”
Mbappe is currently away on international duty but his France side’s Euro 2024 dreams were shattered by Spain on Tuesday night.
Goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo sealed a 2-1 comeback win for Spain, who advanced to the final of the tournament.
On Sunday night, Luis de la Fuente’s men will take on either England or the Netherlands in Berlin.
Speaking after France’s defeat by Spain, Mbappe said: “My competition? It was difficult. It was a failure. We had the ambition to be European champions. I had the ambition to be European champion. We aren’t that, so it’s a failure.
“It’s football. We have to move on. It’s been a long year. I’m going to go on holiday and get some rest. That’ll do me a lot of good, and I’ll try and come back strongly.”
