KYLIAN MBAPPE has been SNUBBED by his team-mates as they voted as a squad for their next captain.

As per new manager Luis Enrique’s instruction, the new skipper was elected through a secret ballot.

But Mbappe finished just fourth in the election according to French outlet RMC Sport.

Mbappe returned to the squad for PSG’s opening game of the season after looking set to be frozen out when he refused to sign a new contract.

But the expectation is he will now extend his deal which will contain a release clause which would allow the forward to move to Real Madrid should they make an offer that meets it.

Earlier this window, PSG accepted a £259million bid from Saudi side Al-Hilal for Mbappe but the forward opted not to move.

In the captaincy ballot, Marquinhos retained his status as PSG captain, with Danilo Pereira in second and Presnel Kimpembe in third.

Danilo is well respected in the PSG dressing room captained the side against Lorient in the opening day of the Ligue 1 season with Marquinhos unavailable.

Marquinhos is the third most capped PSG player of all time having made 409 appearances, only Jean-Marc Pilorget and midfielder Marco Verratti have played more times for the club.

Likewise Kimpembe is a long-serving player at the club having come through the team’s academy system.

Mbappe has captained PSG on several occasions, and captained the side regularly during the tail-end of the last campaign.

But his attempts to leave the club appear to have alienated his team-mates – given he likely would have been one of the favourites to take the armband in the past.

The forward has 213 goals in 261 games for the Parisians.
