Animal shelters do amazing work, providing many animals with a second chance. However, there are certain cases that are especially difficult. It’s always tough and heartbreaking to see a dog that has suffered a lot from neglect and abuse
In a recent incident, a shelter in North Carolina was greatly impacted when they took in a mistreated dog. The shelter, sharing their feelings, expressed being “shocked and gutted” by the dog’s condition. They are now fully committed to making sure she gets the best possible life from here on out.
At Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in North Carolina, rescuers were deeply saddened and upset when they brought in a 4-month-old dog named Peaches who had been mistreated. The shelter shared on Facebook, saying, “Shocked and Gutted. “This one is hard.” They described Peaches’ condition as shocking, with infected skin, missing fur, and clear signs of neglect and mistreatment.
In another Facebook post, the shelter expressed their sadness about Peaches’ situation, revealing that she had been neglected her entire life, enduring four months without love, proper care, or even basic necessities. They attributed her poor condition to the lack of attention and care she received.
Even though the situation was really sad, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue was committed to giving Peaches another shot at a better life. They reassured her, saying, “Peaches, you are safe. We will do everything we can to save you.”
Furthermore, the shelter requested people to send words of encouragement that they could read to Peaches. The response was amazing, with many messages conveying love and support for the pup going through a tough time.
“Praying for you, sweet Peaches. You are safe now and will be loved forever,” one commenter wrote.
“Peaches, stay strong!” another wrote. “Your best life has just started. Prayers to your caregivers and medical team for their healing hands and loving hearts!”
Maybe those supportive words did wonders because Peaches has been improving. She got urgent medical attention, got stabilized, and is currently staying with a foster family. In a later update, the shelter shared that Peaches has a tough road ahead in her recovery. She’s dealing with health issues like mild hypothermia, a slight cough, Demodex mange, Coccidia, a staph infection, mild anemia, and an elevated white blood cell count.
Update: Sadly, even with the shelter team giving Peaches their best love and care, asking for supportive words, and searching for a loving forever home, things didn’t go well. On November 12, after a peaceful sleep, Peaches didn’t wake up. The shelter team lost the opportunity to give Peaches the second chance they hoped she would get.
Even though Peaches is no longer with us, we will always remember her.
“We eased her pain, showed her love, and in return, she showed us love back,” Brother Wolf Animal Rescue wrote today. “She showed us tiny glimmers of what could have been, playing with a toy, giving kisses, and showing us her goofy personality.”
