Manchester City will be ending their pre-season tour of America with a friendly match against Chelsea tonight.

Having played Celtic, AC Milan and Barcelona, the Blues lost against the Scottish and Italian sides before drawing 2-2 against Hansi Flick’s team.

Pep Guardiola shares Erling Haaland fitness update ahead of Chelsea match

After revealing that Erling Haaland had some “niggles” during City’s previous pre-season friendly match against Barcelona, Guardiola gave this update on the striker’s fitness situation in a recent press conference (via Man City) ahead of tonight’s match against Chelsea.

“[His condition is] much better. He told me today he woke up much better and hopefully tomorrow he will play a few minutes [against Chelsea].”

City will need Haaland at full fitness for the start of the season

Haaland scored his first goal of the tour in the 4-3 defeat against Celtic after Oscar Bobb and Maximo Perrone got their names on the scoresheet.

The 24-year-old then scored the first of City’s two goals in the 3-2 defeat against Milan before featuring in the first half against Barcelona.

Following this final friendly match against the West London club, the Citizens will then be taking on Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in the Community Shield before their opening Premier League game against Chelsea.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say that Guardiola and City will need to make sure Haaland is at full fitness ahead of their upcoming matches.

Now that the manager has shared a positive update about the Norwegian’s fitness, hopefully, he can perform well tonight and not suffer any setbacks before the start of the campaign.
