Man Utd’s future looks uncertain as the possibility of losing star defender Raphael Varane looms large. The team faces a tough decision ahead.

According to The Athletic, Man Utd faces a great risk of not being able to renew the contract with bright midfielder Raphael Varane.
Raphael Varane’s contract with Man Utd will expire in June 2024. That makes the Red Devils face a great risk of losing the French midfielder on a free transfer next summer.

Previously, in 2021, Man Utd spent up to 42.7 million pounds to recruit Raphael Varane. This player signed a 3-year contract, plus an automatic extension for an additional year. However, it seems that Varane does not agree to activate this clause.

Man Utd has two options. They can sell the French midfielder permanently in the 2024 winter transfer window at a cheap price. If they keep Varane until the end of the season, the Manchester team will lose this player.

However, in the first option, Man Utd has difficulty finding a partner to sell Varane. Many clubs that want this midfielder’s signature are willing to wait until June 2024 to own him without paying a transfer fee.

This season, Varane disagreed with coach Ten Hag. The Dutch strategist was a midfielder in 1993 on the bench. That makes Varane even more determined to leave Old Trafford.

Before moving to Man Utd, Varane was a world-class midfielder for Real Madrid, but this player did not show much at the “Theater of Dreams”.

In other developments, the Mirror newspaper said that Man Utd also wants to liquidate both Casemiro and Sancho. These two contracts cost the Red Devils 71 million euros and 85 million euros respectively. Casemiro played well last season but did not show much this season. Meanwhile, Sancho is highly likely to leave due to disagreements with coach Ten Hag.

Despite spending a lot of money in recent years, Man Utd has shopped very badly. Most of the contracts brought to Old Trafford have failed. That makes the Red Devils increasingly disappointing. Being eliminated from the Champions League group stage is a big shock for the Manchester club.
