Jamie Carragher claims Man City have the best player in the PL – it’s not Haaland or KDB

Manchester City have shown over numerous years that they have the best squad in England.

By winning four consecutive Premier League titles and six of the past seven available, Pep Guardiola has a plethora of top-level players at his disposal.

For example, two crucial players for the Blues are Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, who racked up a combined total of 31 goals and 15 assists between them in the Premier League last season.

With City set to officially kick off their 2024/25 season with an away match against Chelsea on Sunday, a pundit has identified another figure in the Blues’ squad as being potentially the best player in the entire division.

Jamie Carragher suggests Phil Foden is the best player in the Premier League

While assessing the English trio of Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer in a recent fan debate edition of The Overlap, about the City star.

He said: “I think if you think of those three players and asked me who is the best player, I would say Foden.

“But I would say Saka for England has done a lot more than Foden and I actually think in those snippets over the summer Cole Palmer has almost done as much if not more than Foden in an England shirt, even though he’s hardly played.

“I am still waiting to see the Man City Foden. The Man City Phil Foden, for me, is one of, if not the best player in the Premier League, certainly in the top two or three.

“The Phil Foden for England I think he is fighting to be in the team.”

Foden will want to replicate his form from last season once again

Last season saw Foden score 19 goals and deliver eight assists in 35 league games, highlighting how crucial he was in terms of helping his side win their latest title.

Then in the 2024 European Championship, as Carragher mentioned, Foden was unable to score a goal or provide an assist, despite starting every game for England.

Interestingly, Rico Lewis said earlier this month that the 24-year-old that doesn’t necessarily get the credit he deserves for what he does on the pitch aside from delivering goal contributions.

Now that Carragher has shared that he views Foden as possibly the best player in the Premier League, the aim for the England international now will be to replicate the form he showed last season in this new campaign.
