ESPN pundit shares what Erling Haaland needs to do to become ‘world-class’

Erling Haaland has been a key player for Manchester City since his arrival at the club.

Specifically, the striker has found the back of the net 90 times in 98 appearances across all competitions since arriving at the Etihad Stadium back in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Having won two Golden Boots and helped Pep Guardiola’s side win six major trophies over the past two years, it’s safe to say that the Norwegian has been a top signing for the Blues.

Despite that, one pundit has claimed that the 24-year-old still has some work to do before he can be labelled as a world-class player.

Stewart Robson highlights one area Erling Haaland must improve

When assessing Haaland’s first two seasons at City and what the upcoming campaign could hold for him, Stewart Robson had this to say about the striker in a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel.

He said: “He’s had two great years in terms of goal scoring but also I don’t think his movement’s been quite good enough.

“If he’s quite happy just to be a goal scorer and if he wants to develop into becoming a world-class player he’s got to do more in the general play in my view and he’s got to show people because you will never improve as a player if you’re touching the ball nine times in a half.

“It’s not good enough.”

Haaland is a world-class striker

Having scored so many goals across his career, there can be no denying that Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world right now.

However, this isn’t the first time he has been criticised for his game away from finding the back of the net.

Most notably, back in March, Roy Keane likened Haaland to a League Two player based on his movement and link-up play outside the box.

In our view, with him being such a deadly finisher, the best way for him to score goals consistently is to keep getting on the end of chances rather than keep getting involved in the play outside the box.

However, there are always areas that every player can improve on, it just comes down to Haaland being able to do what Guardiola asks him to.
