Erling Haaland was only Premier League’s second-most Googled footballer last season

Erling Haaland wasn’t the most Googled player in the Premier League last season – despite the big Norwegian smashing numerous records.

Haaland rocked the Premier League, netting 36 goals in his debut season in the top flight for Manchester City. And, along the way, Haaland picked up a Treble: the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Champions League.

However, according to a study by the sports betting community OLBG, Haaland is only the second-most Googled footballer in the Premier League. Haaland had over 138,000 monthly searches – with the highest searches in Manchester, Sheffield, Blackburn, and Blackpool.

Haaland was denied of the top spot by Harry Kane, with the Tottenham Hotspur star earning 10,000 more searches each month than Haaland. Kane is the most-searched player in London, Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton.

A spokesperson from OLBG revealed: “The transfer window is an exciting time for football fans, as gossip and speculation about big money moves swirls around in newspapers and online. It’s fascinating to see Harry Kane ranks as the most Googled Premier League player.

“Even with the arrival of Erling Haaland at Man City, and their treble triumph, fans’ interest in Kane and his future has been sky-high and remained one of the main talking points of the season.

“However, there is not much difference in the number of monthly searches between him and Erling Haaland, and the data reveals an interesting north/south divide, with Kane’s search popularity highest in the South and Haaland in the North.”

Darwin Nunez was the third most Googled player of last season – with the Liverpool man making a big money move to the Premier League. Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford rounded out the top five.
