Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer & Bukayo Saka lead nominees for Men’s Premier League Young Player of the Season Award

The nominees for the 2023-24 Premier League Young Player of the Season award have been revealed with Erling Haaland among the contenders.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Haaland is joined by Manchester City team-mate Phil Foden on the shortlist, with Alexander Isak also nominated after a prolific season with Newcastle. Cole Palmer is another player who has enjoyed himself in front of goal in the current campaign and makes the cut along with Arsenal’s title-chasing duo Bukayo Saka and William Saliba. Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie complete the list.

 

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Haaland claimed the award last season, and also picked up the the Premier League’s Player of the Season Award, but faces plenty of competition once again – not least from team-mate Foden. The England international has already scooped the FWA Footballer of the Year prize after scoring 16 times and picking up eight assists in the Premier League this season.

DID YOU KNOW?

Foden has already picked up the award twice, in 2020/21 and 2021/22, while Udogie becomes the first Tottenham player ever to be nominated for the prestigious prize.

WHAT NEXT

The Premier League is poised for a big finish to the season with Arsenal and Manchester City battling it out for top spot in the final weeks of the campaign. Defending champions City currently sit one point behind Arsenal but have a game in hand on Mikel Arteta’s side.
