Belgium issue grovelling apology to Kylian Mbappe over Amadou Onana’s chant ahead of Euro 2024 clash

Belgium have had to apologise after a video was posted of Amadou Onana claiming he will kick France’s Kylian Mbappe when they meet.

On Belgium’s social media channels, the now-deleted clip showed Brussels-based comedian Pablo Andres singing “Who will kick Mbappe’s shin?”

To which Everton star Onana simply stated: “Onana. Amadou Onana.”

The post has since been taken down and the Royal Belgian Football Association have apologised over the video.

Belgium media spokesman Stefan van Loock said: “It was not the intention to attack anyone.

“We have been working with comedian Pablo Andres for a long time, this video also had to be funny.

“But we misjudged that and also took the video offline.

“We would like to apologise to anyone we may have offended with this. For us, this is the end of the matter.”

Belgium take on France in the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Monday after neither country could top their groups.

It is a fixture that needs little to already stir the pot as an international derby.

But the video will surely add more spice to an already-exciting knockout fixture.

It will see the two countries meet for the first time at an international tournament since 2018 when France beat Belgium 1-0 in the World Cup semi-final courtesy of a goal from Samuel Umtiti.

But both nations are yet to showcase their best at Euro 2024 this summer with Mbappe coming in for criticism from talkSPORT pundit and France legend Emmanuel Petit.

The France captain has one goal this tournament – a penalty against Poland in their final group stage match.
