Man City now want their £62m star to earn similar wages to Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in new contract

Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland are Manchester City’s highest-earners.

De Bruyne and Haaland take home whopping weekly wages of £400,000 and £375,000 respectively — making them the club’s higest-paid players.

The dynamic duo are Manchester City’s two biggest names — which explains why they earn the most in comparison to every other player. De Bruyne has been one of the best players in the world for over a decade while Haaland is a brand in himself while also arguably being the finest striker on the planet.

Rodri could be in line for huge wage hike in new Man City contract

But it seems like City intend to reward another one of their key men in similar terms.

According to a report by GiveMeSport, members of the hierarchy at Manchester City are keen on ensuring that Rodri — who currently earns £220,000-a-week takes home similar weekly wages to De Bruyne and Haaland — as the club aims to tie him down to a contract extension until 2029 after Euro 2024 comes to an end.

Despite the £62.5 million man signing a contract with the Sky Blues as recently as in July 2022, the club are ready to extend his deal — as he has remained incredibly crucial to the side since putting pen to paper three years.

Furthermore, Manchester City wish to ensure that Rodri remains at the Etihad Stadium for years to come — with the report also mentioning that the agreement could put clubs off like Real Madrid, who have shown their interest in his signature.

Rodri deserves to be rewarded like Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland

The decision-makers at Manchester City would be justified in feeling that Rodri deserves to be on similar wage terms to De Bruyne and Haaland.

Over the past few seasons, the Spaniard has been City’s most consistent performer and even during the previous campaign, while the attacking pair were injured — he remained available and was arguably the club’s best player in their Premier League-winning term.

As Rio Ferdinand once claimed, Rodri is the most important player in the Premier League — judging by how crucial he is to this Sky Blues side and for that reason, he deserves to be one of their highest earners.

If the 28-year-old puts pen to paper until 2029, he will spend his prime years at the Etihad Stadium.
