The animal was given the fluorescent makeover for a ‘pretty in pink party’ but later fell ill
A cat has dropped dead after its eccentric owner dyed it PINK.
The animal was just a kitten when Russian author Lena Lenina gave it a makeover it for a ‘pretty in pink party’ where all the guests, the cat included, had to wear pink.
Eyewitnesses at the party told Russian media the feline became hysterical and spent the whole evening trying to get out of Ms Lenina’s hands.
Following the bash, the cat remained pink and kept licking it’s brightly-coloured fur, reportedly causing it to ingest the toxic hair dye.
The vet that examined the cat when it was taken ill and where it later died reported the cat had been killed by being poisoned.
Animal rights activists have slammed the writer.
Artist Yuri Kuklachev described the stunt as pointless and unnecessarily cruel, while an online petition calling for an investigation into the incident has gathered several thousand signatures.
But the author rejected the criticism, saying that she had been told by her vet the fluorescent tone was actually healthy.
She said: “The pink colour was especially chosen for its healing properties and also strengthens the cat’s hair.
“My vet told me it was a beneficial addition to him.”
