WHAT HAPPENED?

The new Real Madrid star, who will be leading Les Bleus at the European Championship this year, claimed that the entire squad is hungry for success as they want to make history in Germany by lifting the trophy for the first time in 24 years.

WHAT KYLIAN MBAPPE SAID

In an interview with Sport Bild, the former Paris Saint-Germain star said: “We come to Germany to make history. It’s our job. We are ready, we are hungry for success and we know what we have to do. We can do something good for our country if we bring the cup home.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 2018 World Cup winners went down 2-0 against Euro 2024 hosts Germany in a friendly encounter back in March, however, Mbappe claimed that he would love to face the tournament hosts in the final of the competition because of their grit and determination at the grandest stage.

The 25-year-old added: “I would sign for that. Friendly matches don’t count! More seriously, Germany has a great team. In principle, the Germans are always there when something is at stake. They always come back after a setback.”

WHAT NEXT FOR FRANCE?

Didier Deschamps’ side will begin their Euro journey on Monday as they take on Austria at Dusseldorf Arena. They are also drawn in the same group as Netherlands and Poland.
