Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland has bagged back-to-back Premier League Golden Boot awards, joining an elite club in the process.
♦ Haaland wins Golden Boot for the 2023-24 season
♦ Seventh player to go to back-to-back in EPL
♦ City crowned champions of England again
WHAT HAPPENED?
After clinching the prestigious prize in his very first season in England where he netted a record 36 goals in 35 appearances, the Norwegian superstar has now won the award for a second consecutive season, scoring 27 goals in 31 matches for City, who also lifted their fourth successive Premier League crown after a 3-1 final day victory over West Ham.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 23-year-old has now joined an elite Premier League club as he becomes only the seventh player in the competition’s history to win the Golden Boot award in back-to-back seasons. The exclusive group of players include legendary names like Thierry Henry, Mohamed Salah, Michael Owen, Alan Shearer, Robin van Persie and Harry Kane.
DID YOU KNOW?
Former Arsenal great Henry has won the Premier League award the most number of times in history, as he bagged it in the 2001-02, 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, but Haaland will fancy his chances of chasing down the Frenchman in the coming years.
WHAT NEXT FOR ERLING HAALAND?
The Norway international will now enjoy a well-deserved break before returning to action for pre-season games as the Cityzens are set to travel to the US in July.
