Christophe Dugarry attacked the French star in a very long interview
Former France striker Christophe Dugarry hit out at Kylian Mbappe for his attitude in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, saying he “spat in the face” of the competition.
“What he showed is the worst of football and the worst of a top player. You can miss passes, dribbles, have a bad day, but the attitude of that boy was scandalous, a lack of respect,” Dugarry told RMC Sport radio where he is a commentator.
The former Barcelona man added that Mbappe’s game was “a betrayal for the public that was in full swing, for the people who trust him, for those who pay him, for those who appreciate him and for a Champions League quarter-final”.
“You spat in the face of the Champions League, which you seem to want to win. You had a chance to play in such a beautiful stadium, against Barca, and the attitude is an absolute disgrace,” he said.
Dugarry acknowledged that Mbappe’s quality may allow him to “turn the tie around” and qualify his side for the semi-finals, but that would not wash away the bad image he showed.
“I didn’t think he could sink so low, it’s the worst game I’ve seen him in terms of attitude and there have been a few,” said the former player, who considered it “bad faith” that some people think the blame for his poor performance lies with coach Luis Enrique.
Mbappe, who is in his final season at PSG, put in a poor performance in the first leg of the quarter-final in which Barcelona won 2-3 at the Parc des Princes.
