Sergio Aguero is coming out of retirement to take part in winner-takes-all football tournament where the victors claim a $1million (£791,000) prize pot.
The legendary former Manchester City striker previously retired from football on the grounds of medical advice in 2021 at the age of 33.
Aguero had just departed England to join Barcelona but was advised to quit playing after it was discovered he was suffering with an irregular heartbeat.
A tear-jerking retirement announcement followed at the Camp Nou, but Aguero is now set to return to the pitch in a one-off competition – The Soccer Tournament.
The seven-v-seven competition will pit a host of modern day icons against one another and will take place from June 5-10 in Cary, North Carolina.

The full list of teams – and who Aguero will represent – is yet to be confirmed, but professional outfits Borussia Dortmund, Serie B team Como and English League Two side Wrexham will also be involved.
Confirming Aguero’s involvement, TST founder and CEO Jon Mugar said: ‘We are ecstatic to welcome Sergio and his team to this year’s field.
‘Not only is he one of the best players of all time, but he’s also one of the fiercest competitors ever.
The 48-team men’s field will also feature former Premier League midfielder Tom Huddlestone who currently plays as a senior player in Manchester United’s academy
