Arteta has done an excellent job with the Gunners over the last two seasons and is battling for the Premier League title again this season. Meanwhile, United are far behind the top teams after yet another poor campaign under Erik ten Hag’s guidance. As a result, the Dutchman’s future is uncertain, with new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team accused of apprehensive about Ten Hag’s long-term role as manager of the club.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “Arteta would leave Arsenal to join Man United, 100 per cent. No one is saying it’s happening but if Man United in a wild dream said, ‘do you know what, Erik ten Hag, thank you’ or Erik ten Hag has been poached by Bayern Munich, and he goes there, and then Man United says top of the list is Arteta. Arteta is going in and saying to the lads, ‘listen guys, it’s been emotional but I ‘ve got to move, I’ve got to go’.”
The Red Devils sit in sixth place in the Premier League with a goal difference of zero. They have also been knocked out of the Champions League earlier this season after finishing fourth in the group stage behind Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Arsenal are involved in a title fight with Manchester City and Liverpool as they sit just two points off the top and are in the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition.
Despite Ferdinand’s sensational claim, it is likely that the Spaniard will remain with the Gunners for at least till his contract ends in 2025. He has been linked previously with the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona.
