Despite a family emergency, Erling Haaland put on a brilliant performance to lead Man City to victory in the Champions League match. His resilience and skill shone through when it mattered most.

Erling Haaland overcame the sadness of losing his grandmother when Manchester City defeated FC Copenhagen 3-1 in the Champions League.

The Norwegian played the entire match at Parken Stadium, assisting Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden to gain a vital first-leg advantage in their last-16 tie.

The match took place just days after Tone Rasdal, Erling Haaland’s grandmother and mother of former City, Leeds and Nottingham Forest star Alfie Haaland, passed away on Saturday (February 10, according to Mirror).

She passed away peacefully at Sivdaheimen nursing home in Bryne and will be laid to rest this week. The family’s obituary in the Norwegian press read: “Today our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother Tone Rasdal passed away peacefully at the age of 80.”

It is unclear whether Haaland knew about his grandmother’s passing when he scored twice in the 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at the Etihad last weekend. That double means Haaland has now scored a team-high 51 goals in 50 appearances for the treble-winning side.

Earlier this year, City allowed Rodri to fly to Madrid to reunite with his family following the sad passing of his grandmother. He then returned to the bench in the 5–0 FA Cup win over Huddersfield but did not play.
