Through the Man Utd homepage, coach Erik ten Hag updated the contract situation of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans.
Varane is currently one of the highest-earning players at Man United. The Red Devils’ leadership is said to have decided not to activate the extension clause to keep the French international at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Evans was only signed as a short-term option last summer, after the Red Devils were unable to bring in a high-calibre centre-back due to limited funds.
Varane and Evans have both had standout moments during the season, but it is currently unclear whether either player will remain at the club beyond the summer.
Coach Ten Hag himself also confirmed: “We have not made a decision yet.”
If Man Utd does not bring in a new midfielder, Evans will likely continue to be signed. He still shows value and experience when needed.
Meanwhile, Varane may be asked to accept a 50% pay cut to extend his stay. If he refuses the offer, he can leave for free this summer.
