In an interview with journalist William Hill, former midfielder Richard Dunne shared a lot about the future race for the Golden Ball title.
In the 2022/23 season, striker Erling Haaland has shown impressive scoring form even though he only joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the 2022 summer transfer window.
After 48 appearances in all competitions, the Norwegian star scored a total of 49 goals, thereby contributing greatly to helping Man City win the historic treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
Despite his excellent performance, the 23-year-old striker still finished second in the 2023 Golden Ball race behind striker Lionel Messi, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
Although Haaland missed out on the Golden Ball, according to former defender Dunne, who played for The Citizens in the past, the former Irish player affirmed that the striker born in 2000 will win this title in the future and Together with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, they create a three-horse race.
“It will only be a matter of time before Haaland wins the Golden Ball,” Dunne told journalist Hill. “He is on the same level as Mbappe and Bellingham, the best players of the new generation. Haaland won the Champions League but did not have a good record with the Norwegian team, but in my opinion, he always has a great influence on any team. After the recent race between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, the above three players will replace them.”
