Liverpool have been warned that Kylian Mbappe will not “want to live there”, while Chelsea are ruled out of that transfer race as a “mid-table club”.

Those are the opinions of 1998 World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf, with the former France international not convinced that his fellow countryman will end up in the Premier League any time soon. There has been talk of Mbappe severing ties with Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 as he is yet to sign a contract extension at Parc des Princes.

Anfield has been mooted as one potential landing spot for Mbappe if Real Madrid miss out on his signature once again, but Leboeuf has told CasinosEnLigne.com: “Manchester City or Bayern Munich could potentially move for Mbappe, but I think those two clubs already have great players. I think Liverpool could be an option, but I’m not sure Mbappe will want to live there! That’s all due respect to the Scousers!”

Leboeuf spent five years in England with Chelsea during his playing days, but he cannot see the Blues competing for Mbappe’s signature after struggling to find value in the elaborate £1 billion ($1.2bn) spend that has been bankrolled by the club’s Todd Boehly-led ownership group. The former centre-half added: “Let’s be realistic – Chelsea are a mid table club. Attracting players will be tough and players like Mbappe won’t want to come. The big players want to play in the Champions League. Arsenal had that problem for years, and so did Manchester United. Top players won’t come to Chelsea because the club has fallen. It’s unbelievable to see what the club has become just two years on from their Champions League win. I’m disgusted with it. I have nothing against Todd Boehly, but they need to change things quickly or else they’ll kill the club.”

Chelsea missed out on European qualification last season as they finished 12th in the Premier League and, despite spending more money over the summer while bringing in Mauricio Pochettino as head coach, they have collected just five points from six games at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
