Lionel Messi, the Barcelona and Argentina legend, has picked his ten “favorite” teammates from his career.
Messi began his professional career at Barcelona, where he scored an incredible 672 goals in 778 appearances, cementing himself as one of the best footballers of all time.
The attacker then spent two years with PSG, where he eventually won the one award that had escaped him thus far – the World Cup.
Messi is now at Inter Miami, where he will play alongside former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
In a recent interview with Titan Sports, he named his favorite team-mates from his football career, and it is a who’s who of football legends.
Lionel Messi selects his top ten teammates.
Messi began by citing none other than Ronaldinho, the inventor of countless memorable skill moves and, of course, a key player for Barcelona in the mid-2000s.
He then named numerous additional Barcelona legends, including Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Samuel Eto’o, with each player on the list having played for Les Cules at the same time as the Argentinian.
“Like Ronaldinho, Deco, Eto’o, [Luis] Suarez, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets,” Messi said (via Daily Mirror).
“I was lucky enough to play with the best players and enjoy the game with them. Speaking of which I almost forgot about Neymar because there are so many people.”
With eight names already listed, Messi then added another two players into the mix.
“There must be many players I forgot to mention,” he said.
“I’ve been lucky enough to play with the best players, with the best strikers. Like Neymar, Eto’o, Suarez, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and [David Villa], and many more.
“I’ve been comfortable playing with all of them, or almost all of them, because I’ve been lucky enough to play with the best of them… playing with them is easy.”
Messi will now try to form strong alliances with Inter Miami players as he attempts to lead the club up the MLS Eastern Conference standings.
The 36-year-old has three goals and an assist in two League Cup matches for his new squad, but they are last in the Eastern Conference and have the poorest record in the MLS in 2023.
