A remarkable newborn is believed to be Britain’s largest home birth baby, weighing in at nearly 13 lbs.
Ruth Harvey, 36, along with her family, Eddie and the birthing team, joyfully welcomed their newest addition, “chunky monkey” Tabitha, on February 28. Despite being two-and-a-half weeks overdue, Tabitha weighed an impressive 12 lbs 9 oz when she was safely delivered at home, despite living just 10 minutes away from a hospital. Remarkably, she is already fitting into clothing designed for babies aged three to six months.
Curious about the record-breaking birth weights, Ruth decided to consult the Guinness Book of World Records.
She discovered that Guy Carr holds the record for the heaviest birth weight, weighing 15 lbs 8 oz at birth in 1992, followed closely by George King, who tipped the scales at 15 lbs 7 oz in 2013.For Tabitha’s birth, Ruth opted for a birthing pool set up in their home in Dundonald, Ayrshire, accompanied by her partner Eddie Gillan, 44.
To create a serene atmosphere, they adorned the room with enchanting fairy lights. Since her birth, Tabitha has only spent a brief hour in the hospital, showcasing a smooth transition into the loving arms of her family.
