Kylian Mbappe comes to PSG training and exchanges a quick hug with teammate Neymar, amid speculation about the French star’s future

Despite the fact that Kylian Mbappe’s future at PSG remains unknown, the Frenchman returned to training on Monday.

The Ligue 1 champions posted photographs on Twitter of the first internationals returning to the training compound, with Neymar, Danilo Pereira, Marco Asensio, and Fabian Ruiz also pictured in a gym session in Poissy, France.

Asensio is making his debut for PSG after joining the club this summer after previously being on the books at Real Madrid.

Another tweet showed a brief embrace between Mbappe and Neymar as they returned to the club for the first time since their summer break – as they knuckle down to defend their Ligue 1 title, as well as another attempt at winning the Champions League if the 24-year-old Frenchman stays.

PSG have watched Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos go for free during the off-season, and there have been persistent suggestions that Mbappe may be joining them.

Neymar was also among the returning internationals at the PSG training centre in Poissy

New signee Marco Asensio is settling in after formerly playing for Real Madrid.

The French striker is allegedly in Luis Enrique’s plans for PSG, where he recently took over as manager.

Mbappe has been stuck in a contract deadlock this summer, as he expects to leave the Parc de Princes when his current contract expires next year.

Club executives want him to either activate his one-year extension or to be sold this summer so that PSG may claim a transfer fee that will not be available in 2024.

Fabian Ruiz  and Danilo Pereira were also among those pictured on their return to PSG

It is believed that the French World Cup winner from 2018 is resolved to reject both choices, even if it means sitting out a season while he holds out on his current £650,000-a-week contract.

Mbappe passed up a lucrative deal with Real Madrid to join PSG last year.

PSG are in turmoil right now, with Enrique taking over as manager, club ultras threatening new Serbian signing Dusan Vlahovic with violence, and the possibility of trading Xavi Simons for Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

On August 12, PSG will begin their latest Ligue 1 championship defense against Lorient at home.
