British Wimbledon hopeful Liam Broady hopes Erling Haaland doesn’t help ramp up opponent Casper Ruud ahead of their second-round clash.
Broady cruised to a straight sets victory over Constant Lestienne on Monday to set up an intriguing match with Norwegian Ruud on Wednesday.
Man City fan Liam Broady is relishing his second-round clash with Capser Ruud
Broady knows Ruud could be buoyed by a good luck message from City striker Haaland
A victory would see Broady repeat last year’s performance in reaching the third round thanks in part to a good luck message from Jack Grealish.
But boyhood Man City fan Broady hopes Ruud is not the beneficiary of a similar style message from his compatriot Haaland, before they take to the court on Wednesday.
When asked if there’s a chance Haaland could send Ruud a good luck message, Broady told talkSPORT: “I’ll be fuming if he does because he should be sending it over to me!”
“He’s got Manchester blood hasn’t he, Erling. He bleeds blue.
“I’m not even sure Casper’s a football fan. Capser’s a beast in his own right, obviously Erling’s a physical beast but the way Casper hits the ball, he hits it like a ton of bricks.
“He’s a strong boy as well, there’s obviously something in the water or the food in Norway. I don’t know what’s going on?
Broady revealed a long-standing association with Manchester City and says the club have shown their support throughout his career in Tennis.
The 29-year-old received a tweet before his first-round clash on Monday, something he admits the club have been doing for ten years.
“To be fair they’ve been absolutely class with me, Man City have,” he added.
Broady says any support messages from Haaland should be sent to him and not Ruud!
Man City tweeted a show of support to Broady on Monday
“I can remember being 17-years-old and being green in these tournaments and never having played.
“I was getting tweets from Man City when I was winning matches and ten years later they’re still doing that and they’re taking the time to follow my results and send those nice messages. I’m still buzzing to get those messages off them.”
