Detailed Account of the Citibank Center Sh**ting in Tampa: Timeline and Key Developments

A violent incident unfolded on the afternoon of November 4, 2026, at Citibank’s large corporate campus near Tampa, Florida, leaving one employee ᴅᴇᴀᴅ and the ɠυɳɱαɳ also fatally sH๏τ. Authorities later released a minute-by-minute timeline that clarified how the αttαᑕk began, how it was stopped, and the events that led up to it.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Jacob Pearson, a resident of Orlando. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Pearson had become extremely angry over a court summons connected to roughly $2,500 in unpaid credit card debt owed to Citibank. That relatively modest financial dispute appears to have triggered the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly chain of events.

Morning threat
At approximately 9 a.m., Pearson contacted a law firm that handles debt-collection matters for Citibank. During the call he grew highly agitated and issued a clear threat. He told the person on the line that unless the court case was canceled, he would come to the campus with an AR-15, a bulletproof vest, and what he described as his “insanity.” He specifically noted that the location was only about an hour and three minutes away from where he was.

The threat was taken seriously and reported. Because Pearson lived in Orlando, local police were asked to conduct a welfare check at his home. Officers found his wife there; she told them he had already left the house and appeared angry. Officers also observed him departing and issued an alert to surrounding agencies.

Alert reaches the campus
Around midday, Citibank security notified the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office of a credible threat directed at its Tampa facility. Deputies began responding at once.

The αttαᑕk begins
At 12:10 p.m., Pearson arrived at the campus, drove through a fence, and crashed into an outdoor seating area where employees were eating lunch.

One minute later, at 12:11 p.m., he got out of the vehicle carrying a rifle and approached LeAnne Selman, a 41-year-old longtime Citibank employee from Palm Harbor who worked in human resources as a learning advisor. He sH๏τ her. When the rifle malfunctioned, he returned to his car, retrieved a handgun, and sH๏τ her again as she tried to crawl away, 𝘬iᩚlling her.

At virtually the same moment, the first sheriff’s deputies arrived on the property, heard the gunfire, and ran toward the sound.

Confrontation inside the building
Around 12:12 p.m., John Fraley, an armed member of Citibank’s security team who also serves as vice president of operations and is a Marine Corps veteran, confronted Pearson inside the cafeteria. The two exchanged gunfire. Fraley fired multiple rounds and struck Pearson five times, ending the immediate threat.

Deputies reached the cafeteria shortly afterward and began rendering aid to Pearson until fire-rescue personnel arrived. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at 1:12 p.m.

Aftermath and impact
LeAnne Selman was the only person killed. Four other individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were later released from the hospital.

Sheriff Chad Chronister described Fraley’s rapid response as heroic. He noted that approximately 3,200 people were on the campus that day and credited the security officer’s actions with preventing a far greater loss of life. Pearson was reported to have been carrying a substantial amount of ammunition.

The campus was temporarily closed following the śh́óóting. Authorities continued to investigate the incident in the days that followed.

The case has drawn attention both for the relatively small debt that appears to have motivated the αttαᑕk and for the decisive intervention by a trained employee who stopped the ɠυɳɱαɳ within roughly two minutes of the first sH๏τs being fired.
