She Was Just 9 When He Grabbed Her — Now, the Man Behind Philadelphia’s ‘House of Horrors’ Is Linked to a Chilling Investigation

She escaped his grip as a child. Nearly two decades later, she learned who the man really was.

Ashley Rivera was only nine years old when a stranger allegedly grabbed her arm and tried to pull her into his Jeep in Philadelphia.

She screamed. Her injured stepfather rushed to help, striking the vehicle with a crutch and frightening the man away. Her mother then ran after the Jeep with a baseball bat.

The man, Rivera would later learn, was Raymond “R.C.” Horsch.

Now, Horsch’s name has emerged at the center of a disturbing investigation into multiple missing women and a Philadelphia home that investigators have been searching for evidence.

Rivera, now 26, says the memory has never truly left her.

“He looked very evil,” she recalled, describing the man she could not forget. She now fears what might have happened if her family had not intervened that night.

Horsch was convicted in 2010 in connection with the incident and sentenced to 2½ to 5 years in prison. But after a new trial was granted, Rivera and her mother were too frightened to testify again. Prosecutors dropped the case, and the conviction was vacated in 2015.

That history has taken on renewed significance as authorities examine evidence recovered from Horsch’s former home.

Investigators have reported finding more than one million pieces of digital evidence. Some footage appears to show violence against women, but officials have cautioned that evidence must be corroborated before conclusions can be reached.

Horsch died in 2025 and cannot face prosecution in the current investigation. His son, Eugene Horsch, has faced separate federal charges, but authorities have not accused him of involvement in the women’s disappearances or deaths.

For Ashley, the revelations have brought back a terrifying question: what might have happened if her stepfather had not heard her scream?

She survived that night. Other families are still waiting for answers.

As investigators continue examining the evidence, the case raises a painful question about whether earlier warning signs could have changed what happened later.

And for the families still searching for the truth, the most important answers may still be buried in the evidence.
