JUST 30 YEARS OLD: FOOTBALLER JESÚS DE MIGUEL diᩚєs AFTER ON-FIELD COLLISION — HIS FAMILY SAYS HE LEAVES “A VOID THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL”
The football world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel, who died at just 30 years old after a serious collision during a match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra.
What began as an ordinary football match on Monday, November 2, 2026, ended in a tᩚraɢedy that left his family, teammates and supporters devastated.
De Miguel, a forward for CD Tenerife, was playing against FC Andorra in Spain’s Segunda División at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
During the closing minutes of the game, the 30-year-old was chasing a long ball near the halfway line when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his penalty area to clear it.
The two players collided, with Owono’s knee striking De Miguel in the chest. The Tenerife forward immediately collapsed onto the pitch.
Players from both teams quickly called for medical assistance as the referee stopped play. Medical staff rushed onto the field and treated De Miguel for more than five minutes before he was transported by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.
Owono received a straight red card following the incident, and the match was eventually abandoned.
A FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE
De Miguel was admitted to intensive care, where doctors worked to treat his ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition.
During the ambulance journey, he suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated by medical personnel.
The club initially described his condition as stable but serious. However, a subsequent update revealed that his neurological condition had deteriorated.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, De Miguel could not recover.
At approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, CD Tenerife confirmed the devastating news that the young footballer had passed away.
In an emotional statement, the club wrote:
“Broken with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, CD Tenerife announces the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.”
The club added that no words could ease the sadness and expressed its deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and everyone connected to Tenerife.
A FAMILY LEFT WITH AN UNFILLABLE VOID
Beyond the football stadium, Jesús was a husband, a father and a beloved member of his family.
According to reports, he is survived by his wife, María, and their 16-month-old daughter, Carla.
For those closest to him, the loss was far greater than the departure of a talented footballer. It was the loss of a husband, a father and someone whose presence had been part of their everyday lives.
Before his funeral, the family released an emotional message, thanking everyone who had supported them during their darkest days.
“Feeling so much affection for Jesús and seeing the impact he had on so many people is something we will always carry with us,” the family said.
They continued:
“Jesús leaves a void that is impossible to fill, but also cherished memories for all of us who were fortunate enough to share our lives with him. Thank you for loving him and for standing by us.”
The family also asked for privacy as they tried to come to terms with their heartbreaking loss.
A FINAL FAREWELL IN NAVAHERMOSA
On Thursday, November 5, family members, friends, teammates and representatives from across Spanish football gathered in Navahermosa, the town closely connected to De Miguel’s family, to say their final goodbye.
The funeral took place at the Church of San Miguel Arcángel following a procession.
Members of the CD Tenerife squad and club staff attended, alongside prominent figures from Spanish football.
Among those present were Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán, national team coach Luis de la Fuente, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and Atlético Madrid chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín.
Representatives from FC Andorra also attended to pay their respects.
The gathering reflected the impact De Miguel had made throughout his football career and the many people who wanted to stand beside his family during this painful moment.
THOUSANDS GATHER TO HONOR HIS MEMORY
The tributes continued on Saturday, November 7, when thousands of supporters gathered at Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López for a special memorial.
A large black-and-white photograph of De Miguel was displayed behind a stage in the middle of the pitch, accompanied by a banner reading:
“FOREVER DEMI.”
A video showing moments from his time at Tenerife was played as supporters chanted:
“De Miguel, we love you.”
His teammates sat alongside representatives from clubs across Spain’s top two divisions.
Tenerife captain Enric Gallego struggled to hold back tears as he spoke about his teammate.
“To speak of you in the past tense is tremendously unfair,” Gallego said.
He added that De Miguel would always remain part of the team.
Matches across Spain’s football divisions also observed moments of silence in his honor.
REMEMBERING THE FOOTBALLER BEHIND THE NUMBER 9
Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel built his career through several Spanish clubs, including Leganés, Internacional Madrid, Fuenlabrada, Unión Adarve, Navalcarnero, Unionistas and CD Castellón.
He joined CD Tenerife from Castellón ahead of the 2025–26 season and scored 11 goals during the previous campaign.
His performances had helped him establish himself as an important part of the Tenerife squad.
Following his passing, tributes poured in from clubs, football organizations and supporters throughout Spain.
FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and numerous other teams expressed their condolences.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation also postponed all matches scheduled for November 3 as a sign of respect and solidarity with his family, teammates and supporters.
A tᩚraɢedy THAT HAS LEFT FOOTBALL IN MOURNING
The collision that led to De Miguel’s passing also deeply affected opposing goalkeeper Jesús Owono.
In a statement released through FC Andorra, the goalkeeper described the days following the incident as the most difficult of his life.
He expressed his sorrow and said that his thoughts were with Jesús and everyone grieving his loss.
Spanish police confirmed that an investigation had been opened following De Miguel’s dєatᩚh. Authorities explained that such judicial investigations are standard procedure when a dєatᩚh is considered non-natural under Spanish law.
For now, the football community continues to remember a young player whose life and career ended far too soon.
To supporters, Jesús de Miguel was a talented forward who wore the Tenerife shirt with pride.
To his teammates, he was a friend and part of their football family.
And to his wife and little daughter, he was someone whose place in their lives can never be replaced.
He was only 30.
There were still goals to score, memories to make, birthdays to celebrate and years of family moments waiting ahead.
But his name, his smile and the memories he left behind will remain.
Rest in peace, Jesús de Miguel. Forever Demi. 🕊️
