TOLD IT WAS JUST A CLOGGED DUCT, PREGNANT MOM LEARNED SHE HAD STAGE 4 CANCER AND ONLY MONTHS TO LIVE

Lindsey Parr Gritton was just weeks away from welcoming her second baby when she received news that changed her life forever.

In April, the Georgia mom was 36 weeks pregnant when she visited her OBGYN after noticing a “lump that was burning in my breast,” she told.

At first, doctors thought it could be a clogged duct or mastitis. But Gritton trusted her instincts and asked for an ultrasound — a decision she believes made all the difference.

“I literally saved my own life just by asking for that,” she says.

Days later, she received a call saying the lump was “highly suspected of cancer.”

A biopsy soon confirmed she had a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer. Doctors found two tumors and numerous affected lymph nodes under her arm. There was no family history to suggest she was at risk, making the news even more unexpected.

With treatment needing to begin quickly, Gritton was induced at 37 weeks so she could welcome her daughter, Savannah Grace, and begin treatment as soon as possible.

Her delivery brought another frightening moment when she began experiencing heavy bleeding and Savannah’s heart rate started dropping. Thankfully, the baby was delivered safely, and the bleeding soon stopped.

Just one week later, Gritton began her first round of treatment.

A PET scan following the birth brought more difficult news: the condition had already spread, with more than a dozen tumors found in her liver. Doctors initially gave her a very limited outlook.

Every three weeks, she spent hours at the hospital receiving a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

“It was really, really hard,” she recalls, especially being away from her daughters. Thankfully, her husband, parents and in-laws were there to support the family.

During those six months, Gritton tried to make every moment count. She created scrapbooks, wrote letters to her children and recorded videos for them to have in the future.

Then came the news no one expected.

Halfway through treatment, scans showed the tumors were shrinking. By the end of chemotherapy, her scans showed no visible signs of the disease.

“We couldn’t, honestly, no one could believe it. It was really crazy and surreal,” she says.

Gritton later underwent surgery to remove the original tumor area and several lymph nodes. Testing found no remaining abnormal cells.

Today, she continues immunotherapy and has regular scans every six months. She says she feels “even better than I did before all this happened.”

Now celebrating milestones with her husband Spencer and daughters Saylor and Savannah, Gritton says every moment feels extraordinary because she once feared she might not be there to experience them.

“It’s really surreal because I just didn’t think I’d be here. So every moment is just incredible,” she shares.

Gritton now shares her story online to raise awareness, especially among younger women who may not expect breast cancer to affect them.

“I wanted to share my story and bring awareness. Everyone thinks breast cancer happens after the age of 40. You don’t really think about it happening in your 20s,” she says.

Through social media, she has also connected with others who have faced similar diagnoses — including two close friends who are now in remission.

For Lindsey, what began as a terrifying pregnancy diagnosis has become a powerful story of trusting your instincts, holding onto hope and cherishing every moment with the people you love.
