Nancy Guthrie Investigation Continues Nearly Nine Months Later as Task Force Visits Florida Lab and Key 911 Recording Stays Private

Nearly nine months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, Arizona, investigators remain actively engaged in the case. As of late October 2026, more than 265 days have pᴀssed since she was last seen, and authorities report no major public breakthrough. The focus continues to center on forensic analysis and digital evidence.

Sources familiar with the investigation recently confirmed that members of the task force traveled to a specialized crime laboratory in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The visit reflects the ongoing effort to process complex DNA samples and other physical evidence recovered from the scene. Pima County Sheriff’s Department officials have emphasized that the case is still open and that DNA testing, combined with the review of extensive digital material, remains a top priority. Detectives continue to collaborate closely with the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, after family members dropped her off at her residence. She was reported missing the next day when she failed to attend church. Early in the investigation, doorbell camera footage released by the FBI showed a masked person at her front door in the early morning hours of February 1. Her phone, wallet, and other personal belongings were left inside the home. Blood found on the porch was later confirmed to belong to her.

One piece of evidence that has never been released to the public is the original 911 call made by family members when they discovered she was gone. In April 2026, retired detective Bob Gilliam addressed the continued secrecy around the recording. He suggested that the call likely contains investigative details that detectives prefer not to make public at this stage. Arizona law generally treats 911 recordings as public records, but it allows exceptions when authorities can show a justified investigative interest in withholding them. Gilliam indicated that the public should not expect the recording or a transcript to surface anytime soon.

A separate 911 call from the same night — reporting a woman screaming from a moving vehicle in the general area — was thoroughly investigated and determined to be unrelated. Officials identified the incident as a domestic matter involving different individuals.

In late July, authorities publicly released the full text of two notes sent in early February. The first demanded a large sum in Bitcoin and claimed Nancy was alive but frightened. The second stated that she had died shortly after being taken and had been “buried in nature.” Investigators highlighted distinctive patterns in wording and phrasing, hoping someone familiar with the writer might recognize the style and come forward.

Despite the long pᴀssage of time, officials maintain that the investigation has not gone cold. The family continues to offer a substantial reward for information, and multiple tip lines remain open. Anyone with information is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or the local tip line at 88-CRIME. Callers may remain anonymous.

The recent trip by investigators to the Florida laboratory, combined with the continued withholding of the original 911 recording, shows that significant forensic and investigative work is still underway. While no suspect has been publicly identified and no arrest has been announced, the sustained focus on DNA analysis and digital evidence demonstrates that authorities have not closed the book on the search for answers in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
