Train bandit goes after $50K in popular kids’ toys in brazen heist

A brazen train bandit was busted in San Bernardino County Thursday morning after cops uncovered hundreds of boxes of stolen Hot Wheels worth more than $50,000.

“Yeah, they’re robbing the trains down here at the end of Maple Street,” a caller says in audio uploaded to the department’s Facebook page. The report was made around 3 a.m.

An officer wearing a bodycam positions himself near South 7th Street and South La Cadena Drive, where he said he could hear the suspect.

“I can hear them loading up some boxes right now,” the officer says while waiting for the suspect to make his move. “Alright, it looks like a black truck is pulling out right now.”

The officer races back to his patrol car and takes off after a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, pulling it over moments later. The driver steps out with his hands on his head before being taken into custody.

“We derailed his plans!” the Colton Police Department proudly claimed on Facebook.
