9 children found ‘living in shed’ and ‘kept in cages’ in Ohio house of horrors

Police have arrested a man and a woman on child endangerment charges after discovering nine kids in horrific conditions at a house in Ohio, with some allegedly living in cages.

Both Jonathan Parr, 37, and Jacqueline Coleman, 32, have since been arrested after police were alerted to the home by child services. Some of the children may have been living in cages inside a small shed, and others were living inside with a grandmother, according to police.

A search warrant for the residence was executed by the Licking County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday afternoon in Etna Township, Ohio.

“The referral outlined physical 𝘢bu𝘴e, including failure to provide food and water, insufficient living space, and juveniles being forced to stand for hours with nails between their toes and locked behind cages or barriers,” the arrest warrant said, as per The U.S. Sun.

The house was allegedly infested with bugs, and the children were found to be living in “deplorable living conditions,” with “inadequate sleeping arrangements and bedding.”

At a press conference on Wednesday, Captain Jay Cook revealed the 𝘴h☉𝔠king scene that greeted the officers on the day of the search warrant.

“Some of the things I can tell you are that the living conditions were horrific, disgusting, and there were nine children living in the house with three adults,” he said. The ages of the kids range from 1 to thirteen, and they have since been placed in CPS custody.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office added in a statement, “Upon executing the search warrant, detectives encountered appalling and unsafe living conditions that raised serious concerns for the health, safety, and well-being of the children residing in the home.”

Four of the children are those of both suspects, Parr and Coleman, while Coleman has two of her own children, and Parr has three, according to Cook. The couple is not married.

A 64-year-old grandmother has also been living at the property with the family. Cook declined to comment on whether she would be facing charges.

At least four children were allegedly living inside a shed on the property, which was described by Cook as “not very big,” and “just like a little out building type [of] shed.”

The other children were thought to be living in a trailer, officials said.

“It was disclosed that maybe some of the kids were placed in cages. The way it was explained and what we saw was not necessarily a cage like an actual big-sized dog cage, but there was like a cage that kind of folds,” said Cook.

“There was no door onto the room, and they used that cage to cover the doorway,” he added.

While speaking to officers, the children allegedly told them they would be subjected to abusive punishments by the parents.

Cook said, “Sometimes it was punishment. Sometimes it was – for no good reason at all – where they would have to stand with their back against the wall, like a wall-squat type situation.”

He added, “It was reported that they would sometimes stand there all day.”

Cook said there were also nails in the floor, which were allegedly put there “like a marker to put their feet.”

In addition to the nine children, officers found a number of animals on the property, including at least three dogs, which were removed so police could conduct the search.

Both Coleman and Parr remain in custody on a $150,000 bond and appeared in court on Wednesday.
