A disturbing case in Wisconsin has drawn attention after court documents revealed details surrounding the death of a four-year-old boy and injuries reportedly found on his twin sister.
Charlotte Kurek, 31, pleaded guilty to charges related to child neglect resulting in death and chronic child neglect following the death of her son, Dante Campbell.
Kurek’s boyfriend, Devario Cruz, who is also the children’s father, is facing several serious charges connected to Dante’s death and alleged physical abuse involving the twins.

According to court documents, Cruz reportedly woke up on the day of Dante’s death and found the boy unresponsive. Cruz told investigators that Dante had fallen down a flight of stairs the previous night, with bicycles and other objects allegedly falling on him.
After picking up the child, Cruz reportedly told Kurek that he believed Dante was no longer alive.
Despite the situation, emergency services were not contacted immediately. The couple allegedly drove to a friend’s home with Dante in the vehicle before eventually calling 911 after dropping off the boy’s twin sister.
The couple was instructed to stop and wait for emergency responders in the parking lot of a nearby Dairy Queen.

According to investigators, Cruz made statements indicating that he believed he was responsible for what had happened to his son.
Dante was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators later reported finding significant signs of injury on the child. One officer described the case as among the most serious involving a child that the officer had encountered.
Initially, Kurek and Cruz reportedly told authorities that Dante had fallen down the stairs while bicycles and other items landed on him. Investigators questioned that account, and Kurek later acknowledged that she had provided false information because she was allegedly afraid for her own safety.
Authorities also accused Kurek of failing to intervene while Cruz allegedly mistreated the twins. Court documents state that she would sometimes turn up the music in an apparent attempt to drown out Dante’s cries rather than contact authorities.
The investigation also raised concerns about Dante’s twin sister. Officers reportedly noticed that the girl had visible injuries during an interview. According to court documents, she told investigators, “Daddy hurt me.”

The family lived together with the twins and three other children from Kurek’s previous relationship.
Cruz is facing charges including first-degree reckless homicide, repeated physical abuse of a child resulting in death, repeated physical abuse causing bodily harm, and related neglect allegations.
The case remains subject to the legal process, and allegations against the accused should not be treated as final findings unless established in court.
