Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has sent a fresh five-word message to Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, speaking during the PFA awards ceremony in Manchester.
The Norwegian striker and Spanish international full-back were at the centre of attentions on Sunday afternoon as they went head to head for the first time since Cucurella was keen to sing a song pointing reference to Haaland at the European Championships.
Throughout the latter stages of the tournament, and most notably during Spain’s Euro 2024 victory parade in Madrid, the Chelsea full-back led the song, “Cucu, Cucurella, eat a paella.
“Cucu, Cucurella, drink an Estrella.
“Haaland’s trembling, Cucurella’s coming.
“Haaland’s trembling, Cucurella’s coming. So eat a biscuit.”
In remarkable fashion, it was the two that clashed for Manchester City’s opening goal of the Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge, with Erling Haaland fed through on goal by Bernardo Silva, only to brutally outmuscle Cucurella and chip home beyond Robert Sanchez.
Now, upon receiving his place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2023/24, Erling Haaland was quizzed on whether Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella ‘will be singing about him much again’ this year.
After initially laughing in direct response to the question, the 24-year-old striker continued, “We’ll see about that. Maybe.”
It is the second time in quick succession that Haaland has been asked for comment regarding Marc Cucurella, issuing his own personal verdict on the Spaniard shortly after the opening weekend win in West London.
Speaking to Norwegian television at Stamford Bridge, Haaland said of Cucurella, “He is a funny man. Last season he asked for my shirt. And this summer he sings a song about me.”
Erling Haaland will no doubt have his eyes fixed firmly back on the field this weekend, as Manchester City welcome Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town to the Etihad Stadium on matchday two of the new top-flight season.
Manchester City will welcome Cucurella and Chelsea to the home of the Premier League champions later this season, with the reverse fixture currently pencilled in for the weekend of January 25th 2025.
