Being a Manchester City player over the past few years has proved to be hard but ultimately rewarding.
Specifically, the Citizens have competed for and won multiple domestic and European trophies in recent years.
After winning the Treble at the end of the 2022/23 season, Pep Guardiola’s side followed that up by winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title and two other European trophies.
Despite these successes, a pundit has identified one figure in the City squad he feels most other players would not be happy being in terms of the role he has to play in the team.
Don Hutchison hails Erling Haaland’s mentality
In a recent edition of The Weekend Wrap by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport), Don Hutchison said this about Erling Haaland and how he gets through games without having too many touches of the ball.
He said: “He must have some mentality though. Most strikers that I have played with, if you ain’t touching the ball for most of the game, you would be furious.”
Haaland does exactly what he needs to for City
Despite featuring in 31 Premier League games last season, the £375k-a-week striker only had 636 touches of the ball in total, leaving 15 players in the squad with more, including Ederson.
However, Haaland still managed to find the back of the net 27 times in total, highlighting how deadly he is in front of goal for City.
These comments from Hutchison aren’t the first time the 24-year-old mindset has been praised, as Danny Murphy hailed Haaland for having the strong mentality to not give into temptation and get involved in the build-up play instead of sticking to his role.
Moving forward, if Haaland can continue doing his best to find the back of the net when the ball ends up coming to him, he’ll undoubtedly once again give his side a great chance on winning even more silverware.
