Manchester City’s players are facing another Premier League season where they’ll be looking to do all they can to impress Pep Guardiola.
Having won a fourth consecutive top-flight trophy at the end of their previous campaign, the names in City’s squad will all be wanting to play a prominent role in helping the club potentially win another one.
Ahead of the Manchester club’s opening league game against Chelsea on Sunday, one pundit and former top-flight player has pinpointed one particular figure in Guardiola’s ranks that he feels is under more pressure than any other name at City to perform at a high level in this campaign.
Nigel Reo-Coker highlights Jack Grealish pressure at Man City
While previewing the new season and how City can fare in it during a recent edition of Premier League Kick-Off on BBC Radio 5 Live, Nigel Reo-Coker had this to say about Jack Grealish and the role he could play in this campaign for the Blues.
He said: “You have got Jack Grealish, who I think for me, it’s more about him and the season he has.
“He is the player who is under the most pressure to really step up for them this season.”
Grealish needs to shine this season
Last season saw the £300k-a-week winger only start 10 of the 20 league games he appeared in, chipping in with just three goals and one assist.
Having then been not picked to represent England in the 2024 European Championship, it’s easy to see why Reo-Coker thinks Grealish is under pressure to do his best for City this time around.
This has since led to Grealish saying that his disappointment over the summer has acted as motivation for him to prove any doubters wrong by performing on the pitch for his club this season.
Therefore, if he’s not impacted by injuries again, he should have a very strong campaign with the Blues, which should excite everyone at the club.
